Exploring the relationship between architecture, technology and organic matter, Roca Barcelona Gallery and MUTEKES present the third edition of its cycle ‘Sculpted With Light & Sound .

At the opening of the festival, the Canadian artist Sabina Ratté will be virtually present in a talk in which she will unveil her audiovisual piece 'Undream' with which she will intervene the Roca Barcelona Gallery for a week . Undream' represents an imagined future in which utopia and dystopia collide, inspired by the photomontages of Superstudio, a major force in the radical architecture and design movement of the late sixties. 'Undream' leads the viewer through an isolated landscape dominated by a monumental structure. The architecture moves between impossible surfaces and the underlying order, interfering with the landscape as it moves in and out of existence.

The auditorium of the Institut Français will once again be home to the X/Visions program, which this year presents three electro-acoustic shows exploring the sculptural capacities of sound with Clothilde, T. Gowdy and Marta de Pascalis. The program is also a demonstration of the festival's institutional cooperation.

With the support of the Instituto Camões and the Portuguese Consulate in Barcelona Clothilde presents an ambient show with modular synthesizers. With the support of the Bureau du Québec, the Canadian producer and audiovisual artist T. Gowdy returns two years later to the festival presenting new live show of melodic structures of rhythms and dynamic tones.

Marta de Pascalis, is an Italian musician and sound designer who employs analog synthesis and a tape loop system, with which she creates repeating patterns that shape a sense of dense, dynamic and cathartic distance.

Pascalis is presented as part of MUTEKES' collaboration with the "MUSE, A New Wave in the Mediterranean" project, which this year expands beyond the festival dates, with a program of concerts and training projects to be announced throughout 2021. Conceived by the Consul General of Italy in Barcelona, Gaia Danese, and curated by Anna Mastrolitto (Dreamers Academy), MUSE aims to support the talent of women in the most experimental cultural and creative scene within the scope of the ITmakES project launched by the Embassy of Italy in Madrid and the Consulate General of Italy in Barcelona.

Program Experience L'Hospitalet

The Bass Valley and Pumarejo

It is a pleasure for MUTEKES to present for the first time in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat the Experience L'Hospitalet program; a musical journey in connection with its creative training and alternative arts: The Bass Valley Barcelona and Pumarejo.

The Experience L'Hospitalet program starts on Saturday May 8th at noon in Pumarejo with the composer, producer and founder of the Lindisfarne label, CRNDS with Fransy González, tambourine player and one of the most representative voices of traditional Galician music.

First thing in the morning, the Experience L'Hospitalet program jumps to its neighbor The Bass Valley to present -in addition to the already announced Seltar-, the world premiere of the new album by Galician artist Huma, 'Emergence', inspired by the Theory of Emergence. Disruptions, fusions, synergies, structures and unpredictable textures that give rise to new evolutions and sound alterations, self-organizing among the chaos.

ProxySpace: a day dedicated to live coding

Hangar

MUTEKES and On-the-Fly, a European project led by Hangar co-organize ProxySpace, dedicated to live coding workshops and performances.

Live Coding is a performative technique focused on writing algorithms in real time that is mainly used to produce music or images, but also extends to other areas.

During the day livecoder Shelly Knotts will propose a hands-on workshop that will allow attendees to learn the basics of creating a live coding session, producing soundscapes, beats and patterns in SuperCollider, an open source programming language used to create music, reactive audio/music installations, interactive systems, live-coding and much more.

Free Registration

At the end of the afternoon, there will be six sound and visual performances that explore live coding from different points of view.

Free Registration

The performers who will perform as part of this co-production are: Glen Fraser + Shelly Knotts (CA/UK), Iris Saladino + Roger Pibernat (AR/ES), Iván Paz + Julia Múgica (MX/MX). Find out more about these artists here.
