National talent at MUTEK Montréal 2023

From the 22nd to the 27th of August, MUTEK celebrated its 24th edition in Montreal, closing the summer festival season on a high note. For 6 days and their respective nights, the Canadian city was filled with artistic proposals and immersive audiovisual experiences that managed to captivate the audience. The event featured performances by many legends of the electronic music scene, bringing together emerging and established artists from all over the world, including some of our country's talents.

The MUTEK festival, renowned for its international outreach and exchange of creators, strengthens its link with the region of Catalonia once again this year. Thanks to this enriching collaboration, the Catalan artists and organizations participating in the Quebec event are given visibility.

This past edition, Feli Cabrera López, better known artistically as Efe Ce Ele, was one of those selected to join the great celebration of digital creativity in Montreal. The musician, producer and transmedia artist was born in Colombia and currently lives in Barcelona. In her performance, she presented to the audience her new audiovisual set Otrxs (Others), an immersive environment where lights, images, ambient sounds and experimental music were mixed to immerse the audience.

The Catalan visual and sound artist Carlos Martorell, also known as Shoeg, was another member of this edition of the festival. As part of the Nocturne series, he offered an audiovisual show together with Canadian musician and producer Priori. Carlos is known for his skills in programming and experimentation with images and sound, and in his presentation he explores the relationship between humans and technology.

In addition, Monica Rikic, an electronic artist born and based in Barcelona, was a guest speaker on the panel 'From the studio to the spotlight: The transformative role of digital art residences.

The international festival makes a representative selection of the Catalan creative community, and the support and collaboration of institutions such as the Institut Ramon Llull (Barcelona) makes the participation of these artists possible. Other organizations and cultural festivals in Spain, such as MIRA festival, LEV, Bass Valley, Sónar +D, WOS Festival and OFF Barcelona are invited to participate both virtually and in person.
