MUTEK ES 2023 Activities

SABRINA RATTE 1 1600x800

The dates for the next edition of MUTEK Spain have already been announced, which will take place from 9 to 13 April in different locations in Barcelona. After a sabbatical year, the festival will return stronger than ever. However, the MUTEK initiative never rests, and that’s why multiple activities and concerts have been celebrated throughout the year.

Next November, the public will have the opportunity to attend three different events presented by MUTEK ES in collaboration with like-minded festivals, that will serve as a prelude to the 15th anniversary celebrations in 2024:

Sabrina Ratté x MUTEK at MIRA festival

To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the MUTEK ES festival in 2024, Canadian artist Sabrina Ratté presents an installation as part of the program of the 12th edition of the MIRA Festival, which will take place from 10 to 11 November at the Fira de Montjuïc in Barcelona with the support of the Quebec Government Office in Barcelona.

Sabrina’s work consists of creating complex audiovisual ecosystems to explore, among others, the interaction between technology and the natural world. Installations, immersive pieces, interactive videos and 3D animations are some of the techniques she uses in her work, in which the organic and the artificial intermingle in a fantasy of color, textures and naturalistic sci-fi. The artist has presented some of her fascinating experiences in various spaces around the world, and this fall she will arrive at the Catalan capital to promote her new audiovisual project Inflorescences: 4 videos where she focuses on a hypothetical and posthuman future where plants, fungi and animals have suffered mutations in order to coexist with electronic residues.

Nils Frahm on a Spanish tour

To continue the festival's 15th anniversary celebrations in Spain, MUTEK joins forces with Primavera Sound festival to bring German composer Nils Frahm in concert. The artist will embark on a tour of the country, where he will present his latest studio work 'Music for Animals'. It will take place on the 20th November at the Teatro Coliseum in Madrid and on the 26th November at L'Auditori in Barcelona, as part of the Sit Back modern music cycle. Between these two dates, Nils Frahm will also make stops in the cities of Santiago de Compostela and Santander.

The musician leaves his flagship instrument, the piano, to delve into a more environmental and expansive facet by creating a mix of synthetic and organic sounds. In his new project, Frahm suggests a new way of listening, a passive exercise where the music is only accompanying.

Two very special dates that serve as a celebration of the decade since Nils Frahm opened MUTEK ES at the Tívoli theater in a very intimate and memorable concert, which is still in the minds of many of the festival's followers.
