MUTEK BARCELONA UNVEILS FIRST WAVE OF ARTISTS FOR EDITION 13

The International Festival of Digital Creativity and Electronic Music, MUTEK Barcelona, ​​will celebrate its 13th edition from March 7 to 13, 2022.

Originally from Canada, MUTEK has a solid International Network that spans America, Europe and Asia and that in 2022 will present the festival editions: MUTEK Montreal (23rd edition), MUTEK Mexico (18th edition), MUTEK Japan (6th edition) and MUTEK Argentina (6th edition).

Once again, the objective of the festival is to showcase innovative and disruptive projects that combine digital creativity, music and technology. For this, it proposes a program that includes professional activities, digital art installations, live shows and audiovisual performances through its different programs: Play, Ambient, Nocturne, A/Visions, Experience and Digi Lab.

This edition reflects the importance -more than ever- of the founding values ​​of the MUTEK platform of building bridges and of a cultural model based, for more than two decades, on promoting international cooperation synergies, which have consolidated MUTEK as one of the main active training and exhibition platforms for an artistic and professional community seriously affected by the stoppage of the industry in the past 2 years.

True to its mandate of being a space for discovery and experimentation, the festival offers premieres and debuts by renowned international and national artists and presents a selection of notable new talents from around the world.

Premieres and debuts stand out in this first wave:

Two world premieres: Blawan's Live AV, one of the greatest exponents to emerge on the British techno / bass scene and who's recent singles for XL return to its twisted beginnings; Sunny Graves coinciding with the presentation of his new live show.

For the first time in Spain, the newly released live of aya together with the visuals of Sweatmother. With “im hole” (Hyperdub, 2021), the British artist has signed one of the most personal albums of this year, where not only club music is deconstructed but also language, dialect, gender and sexuality.

And debuting in Barcelona, ​​ascendant vierge. In a present in which revolutionised BPMs are one of the trends of the moment, this duo is one of the most original, exciting and infectious projects of the year: eurodance and electro pop merge in their live shows, capable of creating mosh pits on dance floors and placing them as one of the bands to follow closely in 2022.

Iinternational additions include:

Anz - One of today's hottest producers and DJs, Anz is part of a new generation revisiting British club culture from a fresh and upbeat pop perspective. Her EP "All Hours" (Ninja Tune, 2021) is one of the most celebrated on the end-of-year charts.

Josey Rebelle - Considered by many to be one of the best DJs today (and the most underrated) will perform one of her first sets outside the UK since 2020. It will be one of the closing sets of the festival.

Loraine James - Everything that she noted in her time at MUTEK 2019 has ended up being fulfilled: Loraine James has become one of the most relevant artists of the influential label Hyperdub today and one of the most interesting British producers, just as shows his album "Reflection" (Hyperdub, 2021), which is on all the charts.

Shygirl - In the last two years, Shygirl has positioned herself as one of the artists with the most projection of pop and hip-hop, always with club music as an elementary part of her DNA.

VTSS - Currently one of the fastest rising techno superstars of the future. In addition to being one of the revelation DJs of 2021 - which promises to continue being so in 2022 - she will be the protagonist of one of the # MUTEKES13 closing nights.

With the support of MXD (Music Export Denmark) - the official Danish music export office, supported by the Danish Ministry of Culture - MUTEK ES presents the debuts in Barcelona of Astrid Sonne and Sofie Birch, two of the most representative artists of the fertile Danish experimental scene.

MUTEK ES will also collaborate with the excellent Norwegian label, Smalltown Supersound with a showcase of artists form the label which will include the return of Bendik Giske to Barcelona after his successful appearance on MUTEK Connect's Caterina Barbieri show. Completing the bill will be rising artists Perila and Carmen Villain, both debuting in the city with their new albums and live shows.

Representing the local scene:

Marina Herlop - her universe reaches beauty without renouncing complexity, which makes her one of the most brilliant, restless and interesting composers in our country. After signing with the influential PAN label, Marina has become one of the most interesting and promising artists in the European landscape.

Chica Gang - The Madrid duo formed by Rocío and Albal returns to Barcelona after the iconic night they curated for the Boiler Room festival that took place in Nitsa. In her sets, electronics coexist with the ease of hyperpop, reggaeton and makina.

Mbodj - Mbodj's passion for black-rooted rhythms and sounds makes the sessions of the Senegalese DJ based in Barcelona a confluence full of diasporic music, with a special weakness for dark, experimental and dense sounds. A heterogeneous musical experience signed by this artist member of the African-Barcelona collective Jokkoo.
