Speaker

Maputo-born and Montreal-based musician, Samito, is the founder of FEZIHAUS™, an initiative he envisions as both a "label-inspired workroom" and a crucial "civic effort," dedicated to cultivating equitable creative ecosystems within the arts. His goal is to unite creators of diverse backgrounds, emphasizing exploration, fair ownership, and artists' well-being, in a sector still defining genuine inclusion. Acknowledging that mere representation of individuals from varied backgrounds, particularly Black creators, is insufficient to dismantle systemic barriers, Samito boldly spearheads CONVERSAS: Who’s Missing In This Room. This pivotal series of conversations aims to address deep-seated resource imbalances stemming from historical disparities, including access to new technologies and monetization models.

Through CONVERSAS, Samito aims to spark meaningful discussions on reevaluating equity, especially as the pressure to merely appear inclusive has subsided. Rooted in a belief in the transformative power of music and digital arts, he strives to imagine new frameworks for the Canadian Arts sector, ensuring its viability and relevance in the communities it serves.
