Known for always finding the most brutal beauty within foundational techno, Blawan has been producing industrial bangers for almost a decade. Part of a wave of young British producers with a deep appreciation for modular synthesisers as an exploratory sound design tool and live instrument, this techno titan has a supernatural fluency for bringing rhythm to the track, whether it's straight ahead, stridently syncopated or oscillating somewhere in between.
His early days in Barnsley (UK) playing drums in post-punk bands laid the groundwork for his early '80s entry into an electronic scene full of bass music producers. While he quickly distinguished himself with the anthemic "Why They Hide Their Bodies Under My Garage", a heartbreaking track with an era-defining Fugees sample, Blawan quickly retreated from the spotlight. He re-emerged in 2015 as a new Berlin-based producer with a focus on modular synthesis, producing thrillingly fast-paced warehouse techno. His other aliases, Kilner and Bored Young Adults, as well as his collaborations with Pariah as Karenn and Surgeon as Trade, have provided an additional broad spectrum for experimentation.
Such is the case that, at MUTEK Barcelona 2022, Blawan will present the world premiere of his first live project, focusing exclusively on modular and analogue machinery. Undoubtedly, a star performance that is a must for any follower of the most complex, advanced and demanding techno genres.
