When Marylou Mayniel was not yet Oklou, music was difficult to get to. In fact, everything was difficult to get to at the time: she spent her childhood in a small rural village in the west of France, inhabited mainly by farmers. "I had a simple life, but I had a lot of animals," she said in an interview. Somewhere in her subconscious, it's not clear how she began to generate songs that were far from simple, in which she saw the future of R&B earlier than most people did.
When she outgrew the farm for good, shortly before turning 20 she spent some time in Paris and then headed for London, but in fact talking about geographical references doesn't make much sense when it comes to Oklou: her music is free and variable, floating pop in zero atmosphere, that doesn't exactly belong anywhere.
Barely a month after releasing her long-awaited first album, choke enough, Oklou will present it on 11th March at Sala Apolo Barcelona in collaboration with Primavera Sound, Caprichos de Apolo, and MUTEK ES.
