Mateo & PheekCA
Mateo Murphy and Pheek have a developped a long and fruitful creative partnership over the years. Their first live performances in 1998 brought together a number of machines and endeavoured to develop a groove out of the spontaneous emissions that burst out of each of the installation's individual parts. Their desire to improvise dominates the false security that comes from stringing together performances based on prefabricated sections.
Eleven years later, the duo returns with more sophisticated farmework that allows them to extend their improvisational aspirations and to interact in real time. The whole performance is held together on the basis of hot and heavy house-music rhythms, on top of which they experiment with field recordings taken from different areas in Montreal.
