The music and images for a Philip K. Dick novel-that's how best to describe the audiovisual universe of which Johnny deKam, New York videographer, and Pure, veteran of the Vienna electronic music scene, want to portray to us. The voyage commences in the near future once again permeated by post-industrial traces and structured upon heaps of technological and digital knowledge. The principal players have enlisted their sharpest weapons-Max/MSP/Jitter-as well as others lesser known, to transmit their message and to submerge us completely. Before becoming Pure, Peter Votova was Ilsa Gold with Christopher Just; a recent CD on the MEGO label paid homage to this decisive project of European techno. Yet times have evolved and Pure now explores more unique and eccentric creative zones. His compositions help induce a passion for technology, research, and cinematic dispositions. They convey certain structural dysfunctions, frequency variations, algorithmic inventions, geometrical arrangements and powerful orchestrations, but also soothing vocals and subtle improvisations-for a final composition where homogenization reigns. The meeting between Pure at deKam dates back to March 2003, when they were both accepted to l'École des Beaux-Arts de Rennes. It was there that they created their three darkly original and captivating films, which appeared on the DVD Requoil Displaced Peaceoff, edited on the Pure-directed dOc label.
