A Guy Called GeraldUK
Acid-techno producer Gerald Simpson (better known as A Guy Called Gerald) has built a genre-busting body of work in nine albums and over fifty releases that span 25 years. The forward-thinking pioneer has never reneged on his commitment to push the limits of current technologies while scoping out uncharted sonic avenues. The British acid house explosion is greatly indebted to him for the seminal “Voodoo Ray” (1988), and Gerald was a central figure in the first incarnation of legendary trio 808 State. His label Juicebox, along with his acclaimed 1995 album Black Secret Technology (featuring a memorable Goldie collab), laid down the blueprint for the burgeoning sounds of hardcore, drum and bass, and jungle. The versatile Manchester-born, Berlin-based electronic apostle continues to shape the future of the genre both in the studio and in the club. Gerald’s debut MUTEK appearance constitutes the Canadian premiere of his “Live In Session” performances, and his first show in the country in over five years.
