Tristan PerichUS

A contemporary composer and sound artist from New York City, Tristan Perich’s work often focuses on the use of one-bit sound to create digital micro-symphonies that often incorporate numerous media to influence the eye and strongly as they permeate the ear. Inspired by the aesthetics of math and physics, Perich works with simple forms and complex systems to challenge the elegance of acoustic and electronic music in both physical and digital art. His works for soloist, ensemble and orchestra have been performed internationally by ensembles including Bang on a Can, Calder Quartet and Meehan/Perkins at venues from the Whitney Museum to Lentos in Austria. In 2009, he received the Prix Ars Electronica. In 2010, he was a featured artist at Sonar in Barcelona, and Rhizome awarded him a 2010 commission for a microtonal audio installation with 1,500 speakers. Perich arrives at MUTEK this year to present a live interpretation of his “1-Bit Symphony”, a work of such amplitude and force that its active listening redefines the boundaries of minimalism.
